The Center for Competitive Politics is pleased to welcome Scott Blackburn to our team as a Research Fellow.
Prior to joining CCP, Scott was a research intern at the Cato Institute, working for Cato’s Libertarianism.Org. He also worked as a regulatory policy intern at the American Action Forum and wrote for the political fact-checking site, FactCheck.Org. Scott graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Political Science in 2012.
Scott has always believed strongly in the rights of individuals to freely and openly express their opinions, and the dangers the regulatory state poses to those individual rights.
“Campaign finance regulations do not, despite what proponents claim, ‘level the playing field.’ On the contrary, they have had the effect of dumbing down political debate, limiting the ability of individuals to express their political opinion without running afoul of the Federal Election Commission, and strengthening the already immense electoral advantages of incumbent politicians.”
Scott is excited to join CCP’s External Relations Department, where he will conduct short and long-term research on state and federal campaign finance regulations to demonstrate the benefits of a more competitive political process. Scott will also blog and author op-eds on his research and other topical campaign finance and political speech issues.
