The National Defense Committee’s Advisory Opinion Request (AOR) hearing takes place today at The Federal Election Commission (FEC). The hearing will begin at approximately 11:30 am and an audio file is available for streaming at the FEC open hearings page by clicking the live audio link.
The AOR is a result of a collaboration between Center for Competitive Politics Legal Director Allen Dickerson and attorney Benjamin T. Barr and local counsel Dan Backer of DB Capitol Strategies. The advisory opinion request (AOR) on behalf of the National Defense Committee asks for clarification as to whether certain proposed internet communications are “express advocacy” subject to regulation by the Commission. The AOR also asks whether National Defense must file as a political action committee (“PAC”) in order to produce these communications.
